In the homestretch

Originally posted on MySpace on April 23, 2007.

Well, it's the last show of my groupie road trip. I have a little time to kill before I try to see John before the concert so I'll write a bit. I left Cedar City, UT this morning and the surprise two inches of snow overnight. I checked into my hotel in Salt Lake City early...it's within walking distance of the venue, which is great!

After unloading my stuff, I walked over to The Depot, the site of tonight's Five For Fighting concert. I got there about 12:00 pm to wait for the arrival of the tour bus. Sure enough, at about 12:45, the bus showed up. After the driver expertly backed in the bus and trailer to the dock, I talked to him for awhile. They left Las Vegas at 4:00 am this morning, and would have gotten to Salt Lake earlier but they got a flat tire on the trailer. The driver didn't know about it until a helpful motorist made him aware. Luckily, it only took about 30 minutes to fix before they got back on the road. As the bus and trailer were being unloaded, I asked one of the crew guys for a promo photo. He said I would have to ask Don, the lighting guy, who I guess also handles the promotional stuff...if I get a chance, I will. But, he did give me a guitar pick, which is just a generic one, but at least it's part of this current tour...I'll keep it! Soon after, I spoke with Al, the tour manager, asking about John's arrival. It seems John is already in town, but busy doing two radio station appearances. I asked when he would arrive at The Depot, and he told me around 5:00 pm, for the soundchecks. I think I'll be there earlier...I don't want to take any chances missing John.

As I hung around, I got to talking to two guys who were also there. It seems that they collect celebrity autographs, although one of them actually LIKES Five For Fighting, and is planning on attending tonight's show. Once again, it was nice talking to people who have a common interest, in this case, liking John's music. I think they were impressed by my knowledge of John and Five For Fighting, and watching me interact with John's people. Sometimes I even impress myself with the stuff I've mustered the courage to do.

Well, I better get back to The Depot...no telling what time John may show up.
