Last night I spent a few hours booking my accommodations for the cities I'll be attending the Five For Fighting shows. I've been a AAA (American Automobile Association, for those who aren't familiar with the acronym) member since I've started driving as a teen. I've always depended on their in-depth evaluations of hotels and motels across the country to make sure my stays are pleasant ones. This time was no different.
I visited AAA.com to see what was available. As I perused the offerings in Bakersfield, I couldn't help notice how prices are much higher overall for lodgings. When I moved from New Jersey to Washington state back in 1994...yeah, I guess you could call that my very last road trip...I can't remember paying more than $35 a night for a room. Granted, I was looking for cheap accommodations, but they were still acceptable by AAA standards. As I booked my rooms for each city, I found myself paying at least double that.
When it comes to motels/hotels, my needs are rather simple. Just a comfortable, clean place to crash for the night. It's gotta be a non-smoking room. Cable TV with free HBO is nice but not real important. Continental breakfast, or better yet, the full meal deal, is a welcome bonus. For this upcoming road trip, I found myself searching for places that provide free high-speed internet access...if I'm blogging for you guys, I have to have this! Finally, I decided the closer to the venue, the better...don't want to be driving around a strange town late at night trying to find my hotel.
It was 12:30 am when I finished making my reservations with a sense of excitement, but also the realization that this is going to be one pricey road trip. But, it will be SO worth it...I can't wait to get started! April seems like a long time away, but that time will fly. I better start thinking what I'm going to take with me...
