A very special road trip

Originally posted on MySpace on March 7, 2007

It's been awhile since I've gone on a road trip. I think the last was back in 1993...the New England area with my sister. Since then, I've never really been motivated to do another one. Yeah, I've thought about some of the places I had visited as a child that I would like to revisit. But, it never happened, and I didn't give it a second thought...or a third, or a fourth.

So, what has changed? EVERYTHING! Am I thinking road trip? Not just thinking...I'm doing it! What's so different now that would cause such a reversal of thought? It's called Five For Fighting's "World" Tour. Next month, John Ondrasik and the band will embark on their spring concert tour to continue to promote the Two Lights album.

Now, what does this have to do with my road trip? Well, initially, I planned to see John perform in just Vancouver, Canada, if it happens...it hasn't been finalized yet. Then, I added his House of Blues show in Las Vegas to the mix...that was a definite. At that point, I actually planned a normal-type road trip, touring the sights of Utah and Arizona and ending my vacation with the concert in Vegas. But, as I examined the tour schedule, I began to see possibilities. What if I juggled my vacation time and went to some additional shows? It was then that I decided...I'm doing it!

I changed my time off, and that same week, bought my concert tickets. April 17...Bakersfield, April 18...Las Vegas, April 20...San Diego, April 21...Los Angeles and April 23...Salt Lake City. I'm calling it the Great Five For Fighting Groupie Road Tour. It also could very well be the road trip of a lifetime. I can't believe it's happening! I know, some people will think I'm nuts...my family included. But, since when did I care what other people think, especially when it comes to John and Five For Fighting.

What can I say? I'm devoted...and, maybe a little obsessed. The word "fan" comes from the longer term "fanatic." I don't think it should be considered a negative. And, what about being a groupie? What does one do to play the part of a groupie? Do groupies still exist? Is there such a thing as a Five For Fighting groupie? I guess I'll be learning as I go along. And, with luck, you'll be going with me, as I plan to blog along the way.

Stay tuned...
